Pollen Relief Guide - Your loungewear. Your comfort Zone.

That low, heavy feeling that follows you into May — itchy eyes, tight throat, daily fatigue. You're not alone. This guide is for you.

Pollen season doesn't stop at your front door. It follows you home, clings to your clothes, and settles into the fibres you wear. In Scandinavia, birch pollen alone triggers symptoms in roughly 20% of the population — peaking from late April through May, followed by grass pollen, which can extend symptoms well into the summer months.

What many don’t realise is how easily pollen travels indoors. It settles into home textiles — clothing, furniture, surfaces and bedding, creating a constant, low-level exposure even after you’ve come inside.

You can't control what's blooming outside. But you can control what you come home to. The right fabrics, cared for the right way, with slow rituals and intentional choices, can make your home feel like the relief it's supposed to be.

6 habits that make a real difference

1. Change the Moment You Come Home

There’s a reason the Japanese have a word for it: 結界 (kekkai) — an awareness that marks the shift from one space to another, leaving the outside world behind and stepping into a different mode of being. For you, this means immediately shifting out of the day, taking a shower and slipping into clean new loungewear.

2. Choose Smooth or Crisp, Easy-Wash Fabrics

For your time at home, reach for the pieces that breathe with you. The naturals are your best indoor companions this season — organic cotton voile, fluid bamboo, silk, linen and  tencel. Fabrics with a smooth weave, tightly woven or flat-knit surface that feel effortless against the skin.

Your cozier pieces, like brushed knits, mohair, fleece, bouclé and chunky wool — are just as loved. BUT save them for outdoor layers, cooler evenings and low-pollen days, and wash or rinse them more often than you normally would.

3. Steam Before Rewearing

Not every garment needs a full wash. A pass with a steamer is often all it takes to freshen a piece and release any odor or pollen that has settled into the surface.

A simple ritual we love — add a few drops of eucalyptus mixed with lavender essential oil to the water container. Your loungewear comes out feeling clean, calm and gently scented. Like a small act of self-care for you and your garments.

4. Don't Forget Your Bedtime Routine

Pollen settles into hair throughout the day and transfers onto your clothes and pillows at night. A full hair wash isn't needed every day, but a simple rinse as soon as you get home makes the real difference. Dry gently with an organic cotton fouta, soft on the hair and kind on the scalp. If rinsing isn't possible, a thorough brush-out before stepping inside releases much of what the day collected.

Before bed, you can also wrap your hair loosely in silk. A silk head wrap keeps pollen from transferring onto the surface you breathe in and rest your face on all night.

AND on the evenings when you want to do a little extra. When you really want to let the day go — bring the steamer back out.

Add a few drops of lavender oil to the water container, a fresh pass over your pillowcase and a slow run across the bed. Every fibre released, every surface calm and lightly scented. That's a bedtime ritual worth trying for your evenings or mornings.

5. Dry Indoors This Season

Air drying is lovely, but you don't live in a sun-flooded courtyard in Essaouira. Not yet, at least. Wait until July or make it a slow ritual at your next destination.

Hanging clothes outside during peak pollen months can undo much of what a good wash just achieved, as pollen easily settles on damp fabrics.

If your symptoms are active, dry indoors for the entire season.

Some research suggests tumble drying can help reduce pollen on textiles, making it a practical option when you need something fresh quickly. The combination of heat and tumbling motion helps loosen and remove pollen particles from the fabric, which is why it can be effective.

However, use it with care. Tumble drying is not gentle on fabric. It can shrink, stress, and gradually wear down the pieces you love. It’s also one of the most energy-hungry appliances in the home, so over time, it’s not the kindest choice for the environment.

A drying rack indoors is your best everyday option. Gentle on your clothes, easy on the environment — just a little more effort required. 🌱

6. Keep a Clear Divide in Your Wardrobe

Store clean pieces covered. They are only as clean as what's hanging or folded beside them.

Your freshly washed loungewear, hanging beside the cosy mohair you wore all weekend outside, is already collecting everything you washed away. Keep them apart.

During peak season, keep a clear divide. Your cosy, fluffy, chunky outdoor layers go in a separate drawer, storage box, a covered rail or a dedicated shelf, away from your indoor wear and sleepwear.

And while you're reorganizing, add a few lavender sachets into your clean drawers, with this simple DIY:

  • Pick a handful of dried lavender
  • Wrap in a small piece of muslin or use an other light cloth
  • Tie it closed with a ribbon on top
  • Place in your wardrobe. Tucked between clothes, hung on a hanger, or place it inside storage boxes

It's an easy DIY that brings a natural scent to your pieces, feeling calm and clean between wears. A small detail that makes the whole wardrobe experience intentional.

Pollen season is temporary. But the rituals you build around it stay with you long before and long after the bloom.

Take care of yourself. Take care of your clothes, and the environment around you. Start with one new habit or evening ritual, and notice how it feels.

Our team is always here, in store, ready to listen, ready to help. Together, we’ll find what works best for you and your loungewear wardrobe.
